Beloved Hamish McHamish Returns to St Andrews Streets
St Andrews, 14/11/2026– The legendary ginger tom is back! Hamish McHamish, St Andrews' most famous feline resident, has been spotted wandering the streets of the historic town once again, delighting locals and visitors alike.
While the original Hamish sadly passed away in 2014, his spirit lives on through the Hamish McHamish charity and its newest initiative – a larger-than-life Hamish costume that brings the beloved cat back to the community he called home.
"Hamish was more than just a cat – he was a symbol of St Andrews' warmth and character," said Kathy Philip Trustee of the Hamish McHamish charity. "Seeing him back on our streets, interacting with people and spreading joy, reminds us why we fell in love with him in the first place."
The costumed Hamish can now be seen strolling through St Andrews, stopping for photos with admirers and raising awareness for the charity's ongoing community initiatives. All donations collected during Hamish's appearances go directly toward supporting local causes in St Andrews. Their new project is Castle Sands Forever raising funds to restore the Tidal Pool a much loved and frequented pool set in the shadow of the Castle.
Since his passing, Hamish's legacy has only grown. A bronze statue in his honour stands on South Street, and his story continues to capture hearts around the world. The charity established in his name works to preserve his memory while making a positive impact on the community he loved.
"Every time someone stops to pet Hamish or drops a coin in his collection tin, they're helping us give back to St Andrews," added Debbie MacCallum Chair of the charity “That's exactly what Hamish would have wanted – bringing people together and making his town a better place."
